A short film about Chinese in Ladd's Addition, a neighborhood in SE Portland, Oregon.
Chinese in America were prohibited from owning homes/properties due to the Chinese Exclusion Act (1882-1943). Ladd's Addition was the first neighborhood in Portland to welcome Chinese when some Chinese were able to purchase homes and live outside of Chinatown in late 1930s. Once Upon A Time In Ladd's explores the history of Chinese in Ladd's Addition, inspired by the meeting of two Chinese-American women from two different generations.
Premiered Thursday, November 10th, 2011 at The Mouth Studio, Portland, OR.
This short film was fully funded by a project grant from the Regional Arts & Culture Council.
